The Top 17 Blog Directories To Submit Your Blog To Search Engines. Doug Robertson, Auckland, New Zealand, Maori, 021365325, Apple, iPhone, Repair

Gaining exposure for your blog is critical to building a following and revenue. After creating compelling copy, titles, descriptions and link strategies, it’s time to list your blog in one or more directories.
There are many paths to building links, such as link baiting or blogroll-link swapping, but few are as easy to implement and cost effective as submitting to blog directories. And good link juice makes for a growing blog.
Here are 17 directories you need to know about:
1. Best of the Web Blog Search remains a powerful tool for sharing your blog, especially since this director’s very selective, listing only mature and valuable blogs. A link from here is majestic.
2. EatonWeb Blog Directory is a powerful list. The fee, currently $34.99, pays for a review of your blog.

6. Blog Catalog features a vast number of categories, from “academic” to “writing”, while offering the ability to search by country, language or user. It has a no-frills design, but offers convenient access through a simple blog registration.
7. Globe of Blogs has too many features to list. Only non-commercial blogs are accepted. The site may be busy, but I like being able to narrow my search by title, author or subject.
8. The ultimate directory of British blogs isn’t focused on location, but on the culture. It is asked that bloggers be genuinely “Britished.”
9. Bigger Blogs is intertwined with a business directory and an article directory, giving you access to several powerful tools in one location.
10. Bloggapedia has an interesting and eye-catching homepage. Readers are easily connected to top blogs and new posts. Innovative categories, a colorful design and its blogger tool kit make this directory a hit.

How Jailbreaking Puts Your iPhone at Risk? iPhone Repair Unlock Auckland, Doug Robertson, iPad, #iphonerepair, 021365325

Apple iPhones have a wide selection of apps, and iPhone users can rest easy knowing that their mobile devices are among the most secure available. But some iPhone users want to get into the guts of their handsets and "jailbreak" their iPhones in order to add apps and modifications that aren't authorized by Apple.

Jailbreaking sounds great: Get more capabilities and stick it to The Man at the same time. Security professionals, though, will tell you that jailbreaking an iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch is a bad idea — very bad.

"If you jailbreak your device, it's now up to you to keep it secure," said Mikko Hyppönen, chief research officer at antivirus software maker F-Secure in Helsinki, Finland.

A brief history of jailbreaking

Jailbreaking modifies the iOS operating system, usually via specialized software on a connected PC or Mac, letting an iPhone or iPad run "off-road" apps and features. These can be free knockoffs of games or new interfaces, such as one in which users unlock the phone by "drawing" passwords instead of tapping in a PIN.

Early iPhone users jailbroke their devices because back in 2007 and 2008, there weren't many apps to choose from. That changed with the introduction of the App Store, but even today, many users want more control over what their iPhones can do. For example, the jailbreak-only app Activator lets you customize button functionality in iOS, and even create triggers for the iPhone 5s' TouchID fingerprint reader.

"It used to be that jailbreaking was the only way to get third-party apps on your device at all," said Jonathan Zdziarski, a Boston-area security researcher and expert on iOS forensics. "I helped develop the first jailbreaks, and back then there was no [software development kit], no App Store and no security on the phone to protect users, anyway."

Many of those reasons no longer apply, Zdziarski noted. He said that while he has jailbroken devices for research and system engineering, there's little that a jailbroken iPhone can do that a standard iDevice can't, and none of it is anything the average user needs.

The pitfalls of jailbreaking

The biggest problem with jailbreaking is that it disables the "sandboxing" feature of iOS, a key part of the operating system's security architecture.

Sandboxing makes sure third-party apps access only certain pieces of user data and certain parts of the iPhone's operating system. Such apps lack so-called "root" privileges and hence can't access other apps or the deeper parts of iOS. (Keeping apps in their sandboxes and out of the operating system also reduces system crashes.)

On a non-jailbroken iPhone, there's little chance malicious code can damage the system. No app can flip through an address book, photos or location data without telling the user about it. Disabling sandboxing, however, lets apps access user data without having to ask.

"Once you have root-level access to a Unix device, all security bets are out the window," said Chet Wisniewski, senior security advisor at Sophos Canada in Vancouver. (Like Mac OS X, iOS ultimately derives from the 40-year-old Unix operating system.)

Apple doesn't expect users to grant root access to apps, and it doesn't build iOS to keep things safe once an iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch is jailbroken.

One of the worst-kept secrets on the Internet is the root password for iOS (for those interested, it's "alpine"). The fact that the password is so commonly known, and that Apple has not changed it in seven years, shows that the company has no intention of ever giving root access to a third-party app or feature.

Furthermore, Apple clearly states that it sees jailbreaking as a violation of the warranty agreement. So if you do it, say goodbye to AppleCare.

Then there is the issue of trust. While there are preferred sources of apps for jailbroken devices, none are as tightly controlled as the App Store — that's the point of jailbreaking in the first place. But that means you're trusting a stranger, not Apple, with your device.

"If you can't validate the app, or don't trust who wrote it, do you really want to run it?" Wisniewski asked.

Introducing security threats

None of this means that un-jailbroken iPhones have no security flaws. Every few weeks, a video is posted to YouTube showing how to bypass an iPhone's screen lock and access its contact list, make calls or send emails.

But that's nothing compared to the ever-evolving assortment of security threats Android users have to deal with: premium-SMS hijackers, keyloggers, banking Trojans, botnets and other forms of malware that until recently were seen only on Windows PCs.

As a practical matter, Hyppönen said, the risk of being infected by malware isn't much higher on jailbroken iPhones than on non-jailbroken ones — at least not yet. Some of that is simply because Android systems are a bigger and more lucrative target.

But, as Hyppönen noted on Twitter in 2012 on the fifth anniversary of the iPhone's debut, no one had ever found malware for non-jailbroken iOS devices outside a testing lab — a fact that still holds true.

"It's not just luck," Hyppönen tweeted. "We need to congratulate Apple on this."

Security tips for jailbroken iOS devices

If, despite the risks, you still insist on jailbreaking your iDevice, there are a few things you can do to keep it a bit more secure.

Change the root password to something other than "alpine." Most malware for jailbroken iPhones relies on the fact that few jailbreakers change the root password. Once you've jailbroken the phone, you will probably have received the Cydia app, an app repository for jailbroken iDevices. Cydia has several sets of instructions on how to change the root password.

Download and install antivirus software on your iDevice. Because Apple won't let iOS apps closely monitor other processes, some of the "antivirus" apps in the App Store don't actually protect users from malware. One that does is Intego VirusBarrier, which scans files, websites and attachments, but not other apps. Unfortunately, there doesn't appear to be any iOS app in Cydia or the App Store that can match the strong protection provided by Android antivirus apps.

Be aware of what you're installing, and where it comes from. Malicious apps are often designed to look exactly like popular, harmless ones. Don't trust free versions of games that normally cost a few dollars.

There's also the possibility that a badly written app or firmware update, let alone a malicious one, could "brick" the phone. Unlike a desktop computer, there's really no way to factory restore the device when that happens.

"Is it really worth it because you want a free copy of 'Angry Birds'?" Wisniewski said. "Probably not."

Your Top Five 5 Free Productivity Widgets for your iPhone 6 and iPad Air 2, Auckland, New Zealand. Doug Robertson 021365325

ping fast my blog, website, or RSS feed for Free
More and more devices are using iOS 8 over iOS 7, and that means more and more developers are adding iOS 8-friendly features to their apps, especially widgets. However, not every widget available for your Notification Center right now is awesome. Take for example the Dropbox widget—it's essentially nothing more than a real-time notification, as the only action it performs is opening a recently updated file within the app.

Since widgets seem to be the craze these days, we thought it was time to wade through the crap and provide you with a list of free iOS 8 apps for your iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch whose widgets actually offer some legit functionality to help increase your productivity on a daily basis.

Before Getting Started
Widgets are a new feature added to iOS, so before you start getting productive, make sure you're familiar with how to access and adjust your widgets. Check out our iOS 8 widgets guide for a quick rundown.

#1. Take Better Notes
Evernote has been around for a while, but now the popular note-taking app comes with a useful widget for iOS 8. Instead of opening the app to create a note, set reminders, take a picture, or begin a list, you can now pull down the Notification Center to perform all of these tasks on the fly.

#2. Have a To-Do List Handy
Remembering the countless tasks you need to complete can become a daunting task itself. With Finish from Basil Ltd, you can easily create tasks and view them from the Notification Center.
Prioritized by due date, three tasks will be shown at one time and can be easily checked off, and you can even add new tasks directly from the widget. If you have more than three tasks, new ones will show when previous tasks have been completed.  An alternative task viewer widget is Wunderlist, which also has the ability to keep track of daily to-dos and mark them as completed tasks.

#3. Keep Track of Deadlines
Staying on top of pending deadlines can make or break your professional career. Now you can easily keep a consistent tab on upcoming dates with Countdowns with Widgets from Shayes Apps. Simply create an event, then add the widget to your Notification Center where you can view up to four events—each will display the days, hours, minutes, and seconds remaining until the deadline hits.

#4. Stay on Top of Your Financials
I use my banking app all the time to keep an eye on recent account activity to make sure I'm not spending money too frivolously or am overdrawn on any of my accounts.
With the Personal Money and Investing app, you can quickly glance at your recent transactions from the Notification Center. All you need to do is securely link your personal accounts through the app, then enable widget support.  This is by far the easiest way to stay on top of your accounts, but remember that this information can be just as easily viewed by others if they get a hold of your device.

#5. Perform Quicker Calculations
Sure, you can pull up your Control Center to get to your Calculator app, but why not have a calculator open and ready to use directly in the Notification Center? With the Wdgts app, you not only get a calculator, the app also comes with a calendar, currency converter, photo frame, and multiple time zone displays.
As apps continue to bake in widget support, we'll continue to highlight the good (and free) ones. One that's not particularly productivity-geared that you can get right now is called Favorites Widget, which lets you add a speed-dial menu to your Notification Center, in case you don't like the built-in app switcher option.
Let us know if you think we missed out on any productivity widgets with a comment below, or hit us up on Facebook or Twitter.

Seven Ways to SAVE Your Battery Life on iOS 8, iPhone 6+, Plus, Auckland, New Zealand

ping fast my blog, website, or RSS feed for Free
Users with iOS 8 running on a new iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus are less likely to feel the effects of this, thanks to a stronger (and newer) battery that lasts longer than previous models. But regardless of the model you have, there are quick and easy ways to preserve battery life and add extra hours to its daily longevity.

Some tips are less obvious than others — and many tips can be used for previous software versions too, like iOS 7 — so let's take a few minutes to explore what can save hours of time:

1. Identify culprits
First, you'll want to figure out which apps are sucking away your battery life most. Apple has added a new tool in iOS 8 that gives a percentage breakdown of the biggest drainers. To identify which apps you should close when not in use, visit Settings > General > Usage > Battery Usage. You can then close out of these apps or just delete them, if they can be spared.

2. Manage Background App Refresh
Just like with iOS 7, the latest Apple software comes with Background App Refresh set to "on." The feature lets apps run in the background while you multitask and continually refreshes content when running on Wi-Fi or a cellular network. It's handy for constant refreshing, but certainly not worth the battery life it drains along the way.
To disable this feature, visit Settings > General > Background App Refresh. You can pick whether you want to turn off the function in general or via an app by app basis.

3. Cool it with notification widgets
iOS 8 finally has widgets that you can access from Notification Center — just pull down from the top of the screen and customize your Today view. These widgets can offer up sports scores, weather updates, transit information and more. The only downside is that some of these widgets poll data frequently and that can be taxing on your battery. The good news is you can select which widgets you want to enable (and which ones you want to keep at bay) by tapping the "Edit" menu at the bottom of the Today screen.

4. Shut down parallax
Some people like how Apple's parallax feature makes it seem like the wallpaper can move behind the apps; others think it's dizzying. Either way, it's one of the biggest offenders of battery life for iOS 8. To turn it off, visit Settings > General > Accessibility and switch Reduce Motion to "on."

5. Stop location-tracking apps
Location-tracking apps can be great for when you need GPS directions or even if you want to keep a geo-log of where you take your pictures, but the constant monitoring is eating away precious hours of device life constant monitoring is eating away precious hours of device life. You can turn off Location Services completely (Settings > Privacy > Location Services) or disable certain apps one by one. We recommend the latter option, so you can still leave on key location-based functions such as Find My iPhone if it's ever lost.
There's more, too. Selecting the System Services option under Location Services will reveal a collection of other app features that are stealing away battery life, including "Popular Near Me" and "Frequent Locations."

6. Turn down the brightness
This may seem obvious, but your display is draining your battery, and there's no need to have it shine any brighter than necessary. Use the Control Center or visit Settings > Wallpapers & Brightness and disable Auto-Brightness and decrease the setting manually.

7. Don't fetch
We understand the constant need to be connected and not miss emails, but the fetch function — which pushes email notifications to your homescreen — is always looking for new mail and exhausts the battery along the way. Give it a rest and check your email manually via the Mail app instead. To turn off the feature, visit Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Fetch New Data.
Although these little steps may seem like, well, little steps, they'll be able to take your mobile device's daily lifespan a long way.
